Exceptional Student Behavioral Specialist

Position Summary: The Behavior Specialist will work with staff district wide to develop understanding of a variety of methods to improve student behavior. They will also provide staff development activities and devlop and assist teachers in facilitating the implementation of behavior intervention plans.

Essential Duties:

Works with teachers to assess and improve student behavior.
Assist the teacher in observing, recording, and charting student behavior.
Implement behavioral management strategies
Assist the school with behavior plans, crisis problems and disclipline
Implement the philosophy, correct techniques and guidelines as taught by The Mandt System at all times
Develop and faciliatate the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans
Provide staff development focusing on students with difficult behaviors and related topics.
Consult with IEP teams as requested

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):

Bachelors Degree in one of the following: Special Education, Psychology, Social Work or Counseling
Oklahoma Teaching Certification
At least 3 years’ experience working in a school or treatment facility
Demonstrate understanding of federal and state special education laws.
Demonstrate understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):

Ability to provide coaching, skills training and other supports to individuals who have, or are at risk for developing significant problem behavior (s) that impair their ability to effectively participate and benefit from their education
Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written formats
Ability to establish positive, flexible and cooperative relationships with administrators, teachers, students, parents and community members
Knowledge of behavior instruments, applied behavior analysis, federal, state and local policies regarding confidentiality and special education.

*Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes. stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.

Work Environment:

Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.

Reports To: Director of Exceptional Students-Evalution and Behavioral Mental Health
FSLA Status: Exempt
Compensation: 003 (Step determined by education and experience.)
Work Days: 181
FTE: 100
