About the Department
This work involves providing hair cutting, shampooing and styling as well as other grooming services for residents and patients of County’s Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (Center). Employees in this class must be able to work effectively with ill, aged and physically disabled persons. They must also maintain high standards of sanitation for equipment and work areas. General direction is provided by an administrative employee with wide latitude allowed for independent judgment in carrying out the work. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class. Incumbents may instruct patients or employees in various grooming techniques. A Hairdresser does related work as required.
Position Duties
- Shampoos and cuts hair of residents or patients in beauty shop or at bedside;
- Improvises means of serving bedridden residents/patients;
- Administers permanent waves;
- May apply hair colorings, dyes or color rinses;
- May shave and cut hair of residents/patients;
- Styles hair of residents/patients;
- Maintains tools and equipment in sanitary and good working condition;
- Keeps beauty shop or work area neat and clean;
- Requisitions supplies and equipment;
- Keeps simple records of activities; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
