Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Field Instructor, the Family Support Services Intern is responsible for supporting all aspects of Gift of Life’s Family Support Services program, the after-care support services program of the area’s Organ and Tissue Transplant Network in conjunction with the fulltime counselor. The FSS Intern maintains programming and support services to assist the families of organ and tissue donors after the death of a loved one and performs miscellaneous related duties and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Fulfills DRK requests.
- Obtains daily DRK requests. Personalizes DRKs as per family request and send via UPS.
Contact families for routine outreach.
- Makes initial and ongoing outreach contact in a timely manner, demonstrating multiple and reasonable attempts to reach the family. Assesses the unique bereavement needs of the donor family.
- Researches and identifies appropriate community support options.
Acts as a liaison between donor families and transplant recipients
- Reads donor family and recipient correspondence for confidentiality concerns.
Fulfills Recipient Health Update Requests
- Submit requests on behalf of the donor family. Work with local, regional, and national transplant centers and Organ Procurement Organizations to obtain updates to share with the donor family. Submit collected updates promptly.
Represents FSS with donor families, transplant centers, and the general public.
- Answers questions, reviews concerns, and responds to requests from donor families, transplant centers, and OPOs who call GLDP spontaneously.
Community Referrals
- Research and refer donor family to outside agency or therapist for non-grief-related counseling.
Social Media Monitoring and Engagement
- Serve as admin for private Donor Family Facebook group. Post meaningful content and engage with group members. Assist new members with registering for the group.
Attends staff/department meetings
- Attends and positively participates in monthly staff and department meetings, bi-weekly team meetings, and weekly supervision.
