Machinist III Reading B

Principal Purpose of Position:  

  • Able to operate most work centers safely within the machinist area based on instructions from the leadership team with minimal supervision/guidance 

  • Perform the machining of test specimens and parts as required.   

  • Operate manual and CNC equipment such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.  

  • Daily simple maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment.  

  • Inform supervision of all safety, quality, and production concerns as needed, recommend improvement opportunities.  

  • Perform all other duties/projects as assigned, including the possibility to move outside of the machinist to support business needs.

Education and/or Training:   

  • High school diploma or GED required 

  • Vocational school or Machinist Apprenticeship preferred. 

Relevant Work Experience: 

  • Five or more years of experience.  

Planning/Organizing/Managerial Knowledge:

  • Works on tasks independently using established procedures   

  • Acts as resource to others for instruction, guidance and direction. 

  • Ensures a safe workplace.

  • Working knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures. 

  • Working knowledge of shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.   

  • Understand safe operation of all equipment needed to perform the job. 

  • Experience with Okuma, Kellenberger, DCM, Toyoda, Hurco, Mitsubishi, Okamoto, Jones and Shipman preferred. 

  • CNC programming preferred  

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts. 

  • Responds to customer needs; seeks guidance on issues outside own area. 

  • Prioritizes and organizes own work to meet agreed upon deadlines. 

 

Communicating & Influencing Skills:
