An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Centre for Dynamic Imaging in the Advanced Technology and Biology Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the position
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team to support cutting-edge biomedical research. In this role, you will provide training and guidance to researchers and students in the application of advanced microscopy, offering expertise in the acquisition of data across a range of techniques, including confocal, light sheet and multiphoton microscopy.
Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to assist staff and students in the design of their experiments and the acquisition of microscopy data. The successful candidate will also help to maintain equipment and contribute to other general operations within the facility on a day-to-day basis, such as helping to ensure that research carried out is in compliance with safety and other regulatory requirements.
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
A Bachelor of Science with Honours or Masters in Biology, Biomedical Science or similar area of study.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience in the 3-dimensional imaging of tissue using confocal microscopy.
Excellent time management skills
Demonstrated experience in tissue preparation and immunofluorescence staining.
Knowledge of advanced instrumentation for light microscopy
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of scientific imaging techniques and an understanding of analysis methods.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in confocal microscopy
Experience working inside a core facility.
Experience in other advanced microscopy techniques, such as 2-photon or light sheet microscopy.
Knowledge or experience of preclinical imaging techniques such as bioluminescence imaging.
Experience working in a medical research environment and in a class 2 containment laboratory.
Terms of Appointment
This position is available for one year in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee Level 5 or 6 ($82,018 - $102,979), dependent on experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
