Job Description :
The New York Post is heading West – and this is your chance to be a part of history as we open a brand-new newsroom and make a significant investment in Los Angeles. The California Post will be a game changer, putting the people of the Golden State first and holding the powerful to account across digital platforms and print.
This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: The California Post will bring The New York Post’s DNA of powerful, agenda-setting journalism to the West Coast and be a fresh and fearless voice for common sense.
Our focus will also go well beyond hard-hitting news and iconoclastic opinion. The nationally recognized Page Six will bring its sassy and brassy attitude directly to the entertainment capital of the world. The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation’s future.
Los Angeles is one of the great cities of the world, and it’s time L.A. – and California at large – had a bold, new voice. The California Post will be that voice. California, here we come!
As part of this bold expansion into Los Angeles, we are looking for a News Features Reporter to join the California Post team.
Reporting to the LA Specialist Editor, our News Features Reporter will be behind some of California and the nation’s most talked about stories, from eye-catching exclusives to original in depth investigations. We do not just follow the news cycle. We shape it, digging into the surprising, the overlooked, and the unexpected angles that land on the front page and lead our digital platforms.
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong history of delivering deeply reported, multi-source stories that spark conversation and capture attention. We want a reporter with a history of breaking exclusive stories in California that set the agenda and reach the widest audience.
Application Instructions: Applicants should submit a cover letter or a short video cover letter. If submitting a video, please include a link to the video in your cover letter or as part of an additional document. We do not accept direct video file uploads.
Responsibilities:
Produce sparkling, thoroughly reported, and accurate copy on deadline, from same-day turnarounds to longer-lead investigative features
Pitch fresh, original ideas multiple times a week staying ahead of the curve and also reacting creatively to the news cycle when required.
Report across a range of topics from crime to society scandals, Hollywood and celebrity, politics, tech, education, and “only in LA” stories.
Cultivate and maintain strong sources across beats, from community leaders to policymakers.
Maintain the highest journalistic standards in accuracy, fairness, and clarity
Travel as needed to cover stories on the ground, both in California and nationwide.
Requirements:
At least 7–10 years of newsroom reporting experience, with a strong background in features, enterprise, or investigative reporting.
Proven ability to pitch, develop, and execute ambitious story ideas with national appeal.
Track record of producing deeply reported, high-impact stories that stand out in a competitive news environment.
Established sources and reporting contacts across a range of industries or beats, with the persistence and hustle to expand networks and secure exclusive access.
Genuine intellectual curiosity across a wide range of topics—from true crime, Hollywood, and tech to politics, education, and culture—with sharp instincts for buzzy or high-impact stories.
Strong storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to capture nuance, context, and character; clips should demonstrate narrative craft, precision, and a distinct voice.
Excellent news judgment, accuracy, and fact-checking discipline, with a clear understanding of ethical and legal considerations in investigative reporting.
Proficiency with WordPress or similar CMS; familiarity with digital storytelling and multimedia tools strongly preferred.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom while balancing both quick-turn features and longer-term enterprise projects.
High level of self-motivation, commitment to teamwork, and solutions-oriented mindset.
Strong writing and reporting skills are the core of this role. On-camera experience is strongly preferred, as we’re looking for reporters who are comfortable discussing and presenting their stories on video to help extend our journalism across digital and social platforms.
