General Description
The Treasurer will be responsible for coordinating the work of the Business Office in conjunction with the Business Manager.
Essential Functions
- Act as Treasurer for the school corporation funds, including overseeing extra-curricular funds in accordance with State Board of Account practices, board policies and State law.
- Assist in the compiling of information and development of the school budget.
- Assist in the development, submission, and advertisement of the annual budget and coordinate related activities to obtain Board and State approval.
- Assist with conducting and controlling the collection, disbursement, account and reporting for all school fund,s including the following: bond sales, loans, investments, advance tax draws, funds, transfers, additional appropriations, building rentals, property sales, textbook rental, cash tuition, transfer tuition, insurance funds, cafeteria funds, and extra-curricular funds.
- Set up grants in the financial system
- Identify and use best practices and provide supervision of accounts payable procedure,s including computerized bookkeeping systems.
- Identify best practices and provide supervision of receipt and deposit procedures, including computerized posting of income.
- Identify and use best practices and provide supervision in the balancing of bankbooks at the close of each month.
- Identify and use best practices and provide supervision of the extracurricular accounts.
- Assist in reconciling bank accounts: operating, payroll, and insurance. Balance bank statements to computer records.
- Process accounts payable docket and purchase orders.
- Issue accounts payable payments and maintain vendor set-up.
- Maintain W-9 files.
- Analyze funds for month end reporting.
- Interact with State Board of Accounts auditors and coordinate audit process.
- Assist in providing leadership and guidance in all aspects of technologies that affect the business operations of the school system.
- Assist in administering contract service agreements made by the school corporation.
- Assists and participates in interpreting the policies of the school corporation to staff, the publi,c and representatives of various agencies.
- Coordinate and maintain an accurate up to up-to-date fixed asset inventory.
- Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires frequent changes in sitting, standing and walking throughout the day. The employee may also need to do frequent bending and/or kneeling . The employee must frequently speak and hear as well as utilize the telephone and computer. The position requires lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, such as boxes of files or office supplies, at times, for short distances. This position requires prolonged periods of computer work including data entry and keyboarding. Manual dexterity and the ability to use office equipment, including keyboards, printers, and copiers are essential. Good vision, with or without correction, is required for reading documents and computer screens. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is also a key component of the role.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in business administration, accounting or finance preferred
- Knowledge of accounting fundamentals, manual and computer accounting methods, and general office procedures
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent communication skills to complete business department transactions with MCAS personnel, state offices, financial institutions and the general public
- Proficient in Excel and Word
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Accounting and Finance
Salary and Benefits
Payment Type: starting at $55,000 and commensurate with degree and related experience
