Overview:

The Principal Food Scientist I-Product Development will be responsible for generating and developing new products and continuous quality improvement, and technology in the given product category from bench top through manufacturing scale up. This role will oversee product industrialization, production
transfers and profit improvement efforts. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, quality assurance, and production, to bring innovative and safe food products to market. The Principal Food Scientist I is expected to provide technical leadership, manage medium to large projects,
and drive strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

Innovation/continuous quality improvement:
• Proactively assess competitors' products and conduct market research to identify trends and propose concepts to the marketing team.
• Lead the development of new products while continuously improving quality to meet company and customer specifications.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer service teams to define product requirements, target quality, and address customer complaints.
• Test new products in the test kitchen, develop processing methods in both internal and external laboratories, and finalize through CP tests in the production plant.
• Provide technical support for customer presentations of new products and technologies upon request from the marketing team.
• Work with the Strategic Materials team to develop materials that create new value and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop processes and equipment that drive innovation.

 

Technology development:
• Collaborate with R&D management team to develop strategic plan with MFP approach in the given product category.

 

Product industrialization/profitable improvement:
• Establish product controls and procedures to ensure newly developed products meet customer needs while adhering to company standards and regulatory requirements (USDA, FDA).
• Coordinate small-scale production tests at internal facilities and with vendors and oversee Commercial Production Tests (CP tests) in collaboration with the Operations and Product Introduction departments.
• Review results and provide recommendations to achieve target quality and stable production. Evaluate the quality of samples from CP tests and initial production runs and prepare evaluation reports for quality approval in partnership with the marketing department.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative strategies that reduce costs and maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications:
  • B. S. in food science or a related technical degree is required.
  • Noodle and dessert experience required. 
  • 6-8 years of demonstrated accomplishments in frozen product development and process development, preferably in a multi sales channel environment.
  • 25% Travel
  • Range of Pay $110,000 - $120,000. Plus, annual bonus.
