Duties

Independently carries out assigned duties following established plans, schedules, requirements, SOPs and emergency operating procedures.,Communicates with system dispatchers to ensure generating and transmission equipment is operated within established load limits during normal or emergency conditions.,Issues, releases, and/or tracks status of clearances and caution orders for authorized repair work on power plant or transmission line equipment in strict accordance with written Hazardous Energy Control Procedures.,In the absence of management authorities, has responsibility for determining appropriate actions to be taken during abnormal power plant conditions.,Initiates a generator outage report, which documents the unavailable hours and establishes unit or associated equipment fault.,Operationally supports power plant and switchyard troubleshooting efforts.,Performs power plant operations by utilizing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer system to start, stop, synchronize, and change generation and voltage levels on multiple local and remote unit and transmission line operations.,Directs electrically qualified maintenance personnel in the switching of electrical power equipment.,Prepare records for each plant such as log dispatcher orders/load changes/clearances/ etc. Ensures accurate recording of hourly reading of generator/transmission line meters/indicated and reactive loads/voltages/temperatures/currents/hydraulic data.,Completes operating reports and enters into computer-based information systems, to include but not limited to monthly reports, FEM, and NERC systems.,As directed by operating procedure, makes hourly reports of pertinent readings to hydrology and system dispatchers.,Aids in the theoretical and on-the-job training of trainees.,Takes corrective action in an emergency situation when Maintenance personnel are not present or available.,Monitors security systems which detect unauthorized entry into meteorological stations, powerhouses, microwave sites, and Resource Office and takes appropriate action when necessary.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Senior Controller without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common power-plant switching orders and emergency operating procedures. Can utilize remote control consoles to test energizes transmission lines and place reclosers in or out of service. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with hand and eye coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. To respond to emergency situations, incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 pounds, climb several flights of stairs in succession, stand, sit, or kneel for prolonged periods of time. To use power plant communications, the incumbent must have normal speech and hearing. To recognize color coded instrument indications, normal correctable vision and color vision are required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most duties are performed within the confines of Master Power Plant control room. Occasionally duties may be assigned on the generator and turbine floor, spillway and switchyard. Some exposure to moderate discomforts such as noise, heat, cold, moving, and rotating equipment can be expected. This position requires occasional travel outside the normal duty locations for training activities, operational familiarization of other power plants, local control of other power plants and other activities.
