The salary for this position is: $22.00 an hour.

Thurston County is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a part-time Office Assistant I position in Superior Court. This position performs a full range of general office tasks, including utilizing word processing and data management programs to generate a wide range of documents and to track information.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with incoming calls daily. Provide in person customer service as needed.
  • Distribute bench copies appropriately.
  • Open, review and distribute incoming mail for MC staff as needed.
  • Collect/organize board meeting materials.
  • Calendar meetings for office staff as needed.
  • Calendar wedding ceremonies for Judges.
  • Assist staff with general office functions as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Environment – Office setting in Superior Court in Olympia, Washington, primarily sitting at a front reception desk.
  • Schedule - Monday – Thursday, four hours daily. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
  • Travel Requirements - Minimal; occasional travel may be required for document delivery.
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone and in-person with court practitioners, stakeholders, and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of general office experience which includes responsibility for performing a full range of office support tasks, including experience providing information and assistance to the general public.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and related software to perform word processing and data management.
  • Ability to type 55 wpm.

 

DESIRED SKILLS: 

  • Exercise time management skills along with the ability to work under pressure in a changing work environment, with multiple tasks and program demands in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Edit and finalize reports and correspondence with accuracy.
  • Review administrative and operational policies and procedures and make appropriate decisions with limited supervision in short periods of time.
  • Set up data base programs or other basic information tracking programs.
  • Learn, apply and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Organization and operation of the Washington State Court System.
  • Procedures and practices within courts of general jurisdiction.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Techniques of correspondence and report writing.
  • Excellent organizational, proof-reading, and grammar skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
