What You Should Know About the Anesthesia Technician/Surgical Attendant:
- Monday- Friday: Typical hours 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. No weekends or call.
- This position is based within Jefferson Regional Surgical Services Department
Job Summary:
The Anesthesia Technician/Surgical Attendant is a combined role that encompasses both the responsibilities of an anesthesia technician and a surgical attendant. Under the direction of the clinical manager, and supervision of the anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, this position supports the anesthesia providers and team members in delivering anesthesia care. Their role involves preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies, ensuring the safe and effective administration of anesthesia and all other duties as assigned. The Anesthesia Technician/Surgical Attendant will also assist the surgical teams in preparing the operating room and providing support during the procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring cleanliness, maintaining inventory, and adhering to safety protocols.
Anesthesia Technician/Surgical Attendant Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited anesthesia technician program preferred.
- Anesthesia Technician Certification or Anesthesia Technologist Certification preferred.
- This is a safety sensitive position. *
- Minimum Requirements:
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in equipment setup and patient monitoring
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols precisely
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with the anesthesia providers and surgical staff
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving and lifting heavy equipment
- Dexterity and coordination to handle delicate instruments and equipment
- Ability to quickly assess and respond to equipment malfunctions or patient emergencies
- Critical thinking skills to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including anesthesia, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities in a dynamic operating room environment
- Strong organizational skills to manage supplies, maintain equipment, and keep accurate records
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced setting
- Preferred Requirements:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in an operating room or anesthesia department
- Knowledge of aseptic and infection control practices
- Hands-on experience with anesthesia equipment
- Proficiency in setting up, operating, and maintaining anesthesia machines, monitors, and related equipment
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and surgical procedures
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and sterile technique
- Strong communication skills to interact with surgical team members and patients
