Position Duties
The Exhibit Shop falls under the operational supervision of the Critical Projects of FSD which provides graphic and exhibit design and implementation throughout the park system, including special interest facilities. The Exhibit Shop’s mission is to plan, organize and direct the production of artistic products designed to inform and educate the community regarding the use of the Commission’s parks, facilities, programs and services in Prince George’s County.
Our Exhibit Shop Supervisor is responsible for: providing technical and artistic leadership; providing logistical resources and project assignments to the design team regarding the development of artistic products; defining the Shop’s goals/objectives and interacting with senior management and external stakeholders as needed to implement program ideas.
The position reports directly to the Asst. Division Chief of Critical Projects. Our Exhibit Shop Supervisor coordinates a highly talented, award-winning team of six (6) designers to creatively define and develop the most effective strategies promoting Commission programs and services. This candidate will have the ability to forecast and plan for technological (i.e. software/software updates), equipment and supply needs. As a supervisor, you would expertly manage your team’s creative temperament, by empowerment and sometimes compromising your initial approach versus direct control of the design approach, continuing to ensure that quality and the highest standard of performance is maintained. Also, as supervisor, you would need to learn and understand the Commission’s personnel guidelines to effectively administer human resource policy (i.e. flexible scheduling or performance management issues).
The Exhibit Shop may be asked to develop a range of products including posters, set designs, back drops for an event or community center, signs, banners and or exhibits. This Shop produces creative work for a culturally diverse community; thus, the Supervisor should exhibit an understanding of diverse equipment such as vinyl cutter and plotter, CNC router, large format printers, large laminators, carpentry tools, and a sensitivity to crafting effective, cultural messages. As an out of the box thinker, you will work on and may develop the theme for high visibility, county-wide representational projects such as the Maryland Municipal League and Maryland Association of Counties exhibits.
The ability to communicate effectively with senior managers and project stakeholders is a must, along with a strong team-centered approach to management and the ability to creatively and administratively coordinate the work of the section. You should also have a diverse, technical portfolio of experiences/equipment and be able to conceptualize “out of the box” ideas and design approaches.
