Position Summary
The Simulation Technology Specialist provides advanced technical and operational support for RCC’s Simulation Center of Excellence, ensuring the readiness, functionality, and continual improvement of simulation technologies and environments. This role supports realistic, instructionally aligned learning experiences by configuring, operating, and maintaining high-fidelity manikins, audiovisual systems, and immersive technologies such as VR/AR. Working closely with faculty and the Simulation Education Program Coordinator, the Specialist troubleshoots in real time, manages lab resources, and contributes to scenario implementation that supports interdisciplinary healthcare education.
Position Duties
1.
Simulation Operations & Delivery
Operate high-fidelity manikins and simulation control software during instructional sessions, adjusting patient vitals and scenario elements in real time.
Provide live technical support during simulations, troubleshooting hardware, software, and audiovisual issues to prevent disruptions.
Manage audio/visual systems, ensuring proper recording, storage, and playback for debrief sessions.
Implement faculty-developed scenarios, ensuring instructional goals and timing are met.
Maintain confidentiality of student performance and simulation recordings in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
2.
Technology Maintenance & Readiness
Conduct preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and calibration for manikins, VR systems, and related simulation hardware/software.
Install firmware and software updates, ensuring system compatibility and functionality.
Maintain accurate equipment logs, usage data, and service records for reliability tracking.
Coordinate with vendors for repairs, upgrades, and technical consultation.
3.
Lab Logistics & Resource Management
Set up, reset, and sanitize simulation spaces to meet scenario and safety requirements.
Prepare and stage props, moulage, and medical supplies to support realistic clinical scenarios.
Monitor inventory, reorder supplies, and manage equipment for on-site and mobile simulations.
Ensure compliance with ADA, infection control, and institutional safety standards.

Faculty & Student Support
Assist faculty with simulation setup, adjustments, and technology integration.
Orient students to simulation equipment, technology, and performance expectations.
Provide faculty training on simulator operations, scenario playback, and emerging technology tools.
·Advise on adapting instructional plans to leverage available technology for enhanced realism.
5.
Operational Coordination & Process Improvement
Maintain scheduling systems for simulation spaces and equipment.
Document simulation sessions, technical issues, and operational updates.
Contribute to the development of simulation lab standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
·Support assessment data collection and archiving for program evaluation and accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications
Education – An associate’s degree in healthcare, applied technology, instructional media, simulation operations, or a closely related field is required.
Experience – A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required, with a preference for experience supporting simulation-based instruction in healthcare or educational settings.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, healthcare administration, education, instructional technology, biomedical engineering, or related field.
Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS); Laerdal or CAE platform-specific training or certification; CPR/BLS certification
Experience working in an academic simulation center.
Knowledge – Operational theory and application of high-fidelity manikins (e.g., Laerdal systems), task trainers, and immersive simulation platforms, including VR/AR technologies. Audiovisual control room systems, camera operation, recording/playback, and integration with instructional technology. Basic medical terminology, patient care procedures, and clinical workflows common to nursing, EMS, and allied health education. FERPA, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements specific to simulation-based instruction. Simulation safety protocols, infection control standards, ADA compliance, and risk mitigation practices. Accreditation and industry standards for healthcare simulation. Computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite® (especially Excel), general office procedures, and standard office equipment.
Skills – Proficiency in programming, calibrating, and operating high-fidelity manikins, VR/AR systems, task trainers, and related simulation equipment. Technical troubleshooting and rapid diagnostics in time-sensitive instructional settings. Equipment maintenance, firmware updating, and integration across multiple vendors and platforms. Simulation scenario setup and adaptation based on faculty lesson plans and learning objectives. Analytical and problem-solving skills to address technology or equipment failures during live sessions. Training and instructional skills to design and deliver faculty development sessions and create user guides or tutorials. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with faculty, IT staff, vendors, and students. Organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple simulation sessions, programs, and equipment needs.
Abilities – Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair simulation technology while adapting to real-time instructional needs. Interpret and execute faculty-developed instructional content in live simulation operations. Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-program environment. Present information clearly in both oral and written formats to groups and individuals. Maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality in all aspects of simulation operations. Adapt to evolving technologies and integrate new tools into existing systems. Prioritize competing demands and manage resources effectively to support instructional goals. Pass a criminal background check and meet any licensure/certification requirements.

Other Requirements
Must complete manufacturer-specific simulation training (e.g., Laerdal LLEAP or SimCapture) within 6 months of hire.
Certified Healthcare Simulations Operations Specialist certification (CHSOS) issued by the Society of Simulation and Healthcare (SSH) required within 18 months of hire.
For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.
This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period, which is spent sitting while performing equipment setup and simulation, operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility, including the ability to move materials up to 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds regularly, and 25 -60 lbs occasionally. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office or simulation lab environment. Minimal exposure to hazardous conditions; adherence to infection control and safety protocols is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and lighting is adequate.
Other Qualifications
This is a Full-time Classified, 40 hour per week (100%) position in the Nursing & Allied Health Occupations department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 6 on the 2025-26 Classified Wage Schedule.
Position is fixed term/grant funded through 6/30/2026, renewed annually, with continuation dependent upon funding. Fixed term/grant funded positions do not accrue seniority.
