About the role

Are you ready to be part of an exciting new venture? The Queensland Government is supporting Circular Economy infrastructure by funding Salvos Stores to establish Australia’s first textile sorting and decommissioning plant at Carole Park, QLD. This facility will sort textiles, remove buttons and zippers, and customise end products for textile recycling and helping to close the loop on circularity. This initiative, aptly named Salvos Boomerang, aims to reduce textile waste in landfills, promote a circular economy, and raise awareness of the environmental impact of textiles.

As an Operations Assistant, this is your opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Salvos Boomerang facility. This position involves operating and maintaining machinery, managing inventory, and supporting production processes to optimize textile sorting, processing, and recycling operations.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is a max-term, position offering full-time hours until August, 2027.


How you will make an impact

  • Operate and maintain textile processing machinery, cutting/trimming/pressing equipment, and other textile processing machinery.

  • Monitor sorting accuracy, ensure quality control standards, and optimize machine efficiency.

  • Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on operational equipment. 

  • Safely transport and handle textiles and materials within the facility, including operating a forklift.

  • Assist with inventory tracking, stock control, and workflow coordination to meet production demands.

  • Ensure proper storage and organisation of materials. 

What you will bring

  • Experience in machine operation, material handling, and equipment maintenance within a manufacturing, textile, or recycling environment.

  • Forklift Licence

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based production environment.

  • Physical strength and stamina for handling materials and operating machinery  

  • A National Criminal History Check is required. 

Desirable

  • Experience working with textiles (preferred but not required)

  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills for operational equipment.

  • Understanding of textile processing and recycling techniques.
