Position Duties

The Department of Planning & Zoning, Zoning Enforcement Division is seeking a highly qualified applicant to serve in the role as a Supervising Zoning Inspector. The position will be primarily responsible for supervising designated inspectors and serving as the primary division point of contact for residential and commercial zoning occupancy inspections. This individual will also be responsible for coordinating requested inspections, as well as dissemination of case assignments of received complaints and referrals. The position of a Supervising Zoning Inspector also requires the investigation and management of an active caseload of Zoning violations, Virginia Property Maintenance Code violations, and Community related code enforcement issues. This position will also be charged with successful implementation of special projects which may include directed initiatives from the Board of Supervisors. The successful applicant will be expected to coach and mentor subordinates and assist them with the issuance of correspondence and overall resolution of cases.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Criminal Justice, or a related field; two (2) years of related work experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Virginia Association of Zoning Officials CZO or CZA certification is preferred.
Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development certification as Property Maintenance Inspector is preferred.

Other Qualifications

Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background checks, to include criminal and DMV.

Must be willing and available to work a flexible schedule which could require morning, evening, and weekend inspections, depending on case assignment needs. Current working knowledge of Loudoun County Zoning regulations, Codified Ordinances of Loudoun County, and the Virginia Property Maintenance code is also preferred.
