About the Department
Under supervision of the school nurse, assists in performing a variety of functions pertaining to student-health appraisal; assists in the care of ill or injured students; administer routine first aid and emergency treatment, maintain school health office, including recordkeeping and other clerical duties as requested by supervising nurse; performs other related work as required.
Position Duties
This position description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee assigned to the position. First Aid will have been administered to students when required. E
Care of injuries and emergency illnesses in the absence of the school nurse will have been provided. E
Student health records will have been efficiently organized. E
Appropriate entries on records will have been recorded in a timely manner. E
Assistance with the follow-up of immunization, vision and hearing needs of students will have been effectively rendered. E
Assistance in planning activities as necessary for the health needs of students will have been effectively rendered. E
Immunization and other health clinics will have been appropriately prepared for the school nurse. E
Adequate supplies for the health office will have been ordered and maintained. E
Required reports, (CHDP, Immunization Assessment, Scoliosis, etc.) will have been completed. E
Students with infectious diseases will have been properly excluded and readmitted. E
Appropriate referrals to health facilities will have been made. E
Observation of child abuse and appropriate reporting will have been done. E
Students with special needs will have been identified. E
Significant Annual Objectives deemed appropriate by the supervisor will have been established. E
Other duties assigned by the supervisor will have been effectively accomplished. E
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of:
Modern office methods; good clerical skills; principles, methods and practices of first aid and routine emergency treatment; standard policies and procedures pertaining to a student health facility equipment, supplies and terminology commonly associated with a student health facility. English usage, spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic report writing.
Ability to:
Perform routine first aid and emergency treatment for ill and injured students in the absence of the school nurse. Communicate effectively in oral and written form; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Other Qualifications
TRAINING:
Any other combination of experience, training, and/or education that could likely provide the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by coursework or training in health care, office management and related technical skills.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of responsible health care experience, either in a hospital or other health care facility.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid and current First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross; California Licensed Vocational Nurse Certificate; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Certificate, valid California Driver's License; own and drive a car.
