The Curriculum Area of A-Levels and Access (ALA) delivers full time programmes in AS and A Levels, Diplomas in Access and the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales. There is also a range of part-time courses covering a wide range of disciplines and levels.
 
On the Aberystwyth Campus the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (ABSW) is delivered to a range of vocational learners.  ABSW is part of the A Level and Access Curriculum Area and sits within the A Level and Lifelong Learning faculty operated from the Graig Campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver the ABSW programme across a range of vocational areas;
  • Complete monitoring, compliance, assessment and reporting in line with College and WJEC standards; 
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum area staff to ensure that all learners successfully engage with the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
                            

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification 
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date) 
  • GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent 
  • GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent 
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development 
  • Good literacy/numeracy/digital literacy skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills 
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines 
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly 

Desirable Criteria:
  • Relevant teaching experience 
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education 
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment 
  • Awareness of key performance indicators 
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities 
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance 
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people 

Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
