General Description:
The Board of Education Clerk is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Stratford Board of Education. This position ensures that Board operations, meetings, and records are managed with efficiency, accuracy, and in accordance with state statutes and Board policies. The Clerk serves as a key liaison between Board members, the Superintendent's Office, and the public, supporting the Board's function with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend all regular, special, Board of Education and finance committee meetings (both in-person and virtual, as needed), record detailed and accurate minutes, and prepare official records for Board approval.
Record, transcribe, and prepare accurate and timely official minutes of Board and Finance Committee meetings for Board approval in accordance with district policy and legal requirements. And ensure that minutes are filed timely with appropriate town departments.
Coordinates with the Superintendent's office to maintain an organized filing system of all official board records including agendas, minutes, resolutions and policies.
Collaborate with the Board Chairperson, Superintendent, and administrative team to coordinate Board operations.
Support Board committees as needed, including scheduling, notices, recording minutes, and follow-up tasks.
Ensure timely filing of official documents such as ethics forms, committee appointments, and certifications as required.
Assist Board members with clerical needs, meeting postings and communications related to Board business.
Handle confidential information with discretion and in compliance with Board policy and legal requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Board Chairperson related to the governance of the Board of Education.
Work with the Board Chair, Superintendent and Superintendent's secretary to collect and consolidate reports, and agenda items .
Create agenda package to be sent out to Board Members.
Fill positions for committee recording, secretaries, who will attend meetings, record meetings and create minutes.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor degree preferred.
Prior experience in administrative, clerical, or board support work, preferably in a school district or governmental setting.
Knowledge of Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, Board governance practices, and state education statutes (or ability to acquire this knowledge quickly).
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and efficiency.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, BoardDocs or similar Board management platforms.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evening meetings (10-15 Hours per week)
- Evening and occasional weekend hours are required.
- Work requires extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and note taking during meetings.
Compensation:
$20.00 per hour
