Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is seeking an Advance Practice Clinician.  This role is part-time, 8 hours per week. SUMMARY  

The Advanced Practice Clinician (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Nurse Midwife, and other licensed providers) will function as part of a healthcare team to provide care under the medical supervision of the Medical Director in accordance with PPFA and PPNorCal Medical Standards and Guidelines and all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

 

The Advanced Practice Clinician may also work in Telehealth, Care Coordination, After-Hours, and/or Training.

 

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Training and the Senior Director of Clinical Practice, the Associate Clinician Trainer will assist in the onboarding and training of new advanced practice clinicians. This position is a leadership opportunity for a qualified clinician interested in helping newly hired clinicians attain the needed skills and knowledge to thrive at PPNorCal. This position will require travel to all PPNorCal health centers in the Bay Area and surrounding counties and may require travel to the northern counties depending on training needs.

Tuesdays: 9am - 5pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

ASSOCIATE CLINICIAN TRAINER

  • Aid in the execution of individualized training plans developed by the Director of Clinical Training, including providing direct feedback to trainees on their progress.
  • Orient to and train in all aspects of clinical care including but not limited to:
  1. Provision of gynecologic, abortion, and sexual & reproductive health care
  2. Overview of PPNorCal structure
  3. Accessing and interpreting protocols and other associated medical resources
  4. Billing and coding
  5. Laboratory services
  6. Prescribing medications
  7. Follow-up systems, including after hours on-call system
  8. Consultation with on-call physician and other resources
  9. Medical record documentation 
  10. Time management and productivity
  11. Communications with patients and staff
  12. Ultrasound for gestational dating and IUC localization
  • Available to consult with clinicians and other trainers during the orientation period.
  • Provide updates to the Director of Clinical Training on orientation progress including the use of the DMS-04.
  • Assist with the orientation of physicians and nurses as requested by the Director of Clinical Training and/or the Senior Director of Clinical Practice.
  • Assist with ongoing improvement of clinician skills, including but not limited to, pace, comprehension of protocols, documentation, and communication. 
  • Design and deliver training sessions for clinicians, lead clinicians, and other clinician trainers. 
  • Document training records completely.
  • Provide input into orientation materials.
  • Assist medical services department as needed in ongoing performance evaluations.

   

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES OF CLINICIAN 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. However, APCs are responsible for the medical oversight and instruction of the Reproductive Health Specialists and other medical support staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

Successful completion of accredited Advanced Practice Clinician program.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to document in electronic health record concisely, accurately, and according to PPNorCal protocols. Ability to chart, write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.

  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  

Ability to understand and interpret statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY   

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and experience with EHR & EPM systems. Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications required.

                         

PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION (PHI) ACCESS REQUIREMENT 

As required for patient treatment and health care operations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS   

  • Current California NP, PA, CNM, or another APC license.
  • Current California BRN Furnishing Number (if NP or CNM).
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Current CPR BLS certificate.
  • Must possess reliable transportation or automobile transportation with a valid California Driver's License and insurance as determined by the requirements of each position. A reliable automobile is required for Float Clinician positions. 

 

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Entry-level to three years of experience in sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Direct patient care experience, preferably in women’s health/reproductive health care. Experience in reproductive health, OB/GYN, primary care, or community health care preferred. Prenatal experience strongly desired if applying for a prenatal position.
  • Must be PPNorCal trained and privileged prior to taking on additional areas of care- i.e.; Telehealth, MRD, After-Hours, Pre-Natal, etc.
  • Common sense and a commitment to excellent customer service and quality health care.
  • Commitment to working with low-income and culturally diverse patients with an emphasis on health equity and empowerment.
  • Good judgment to serve patients promptly, competently, and in a friendly manner. Treat complaints as opportunities to improve service.
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate, in all interactions, the importance of high-quality care including accurate documentation and follow-up.
  • Ability to follow affiliate-wide protocols, policies, and procedures, center-specific policies, and procedures and PPNorCal’s Honorable Standards.
  • Ability to maintain complete patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work independently as well as consult with supervising physician or other clinicians as dictated by patient need and assessment findings.
  • Ability to be flexible and available to extend/change scheduled hours or location as needed to meet needs of the health center and patients. Ability to work some evenings and a minimum of one Saturday per month based on Health Center operating hours required.

Pay Range: The wage scale reflects the compensation that a new employee can expect to receive if offered employment. The wage scale for this position is $71.00 to $84.86 per hour, based on relevant professional years of experience
