About the Department
Cary has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time logistics specialist to join our team and proudly support Cary’s commitment to providing excellent service to our citizens through supporting our fire department.
As a Fire Department Logistics Specialist, you will assist the fire department with inventory management, warehouse management, movement of fire apparatus for maintenance, and other job related tasks as needed
Work is performed under the regular supervision and direction of the Assistant Fire Chief - Logistics.
**This is a year-round, temporary position with no health benefits. Hours worked will not exceed 20-hours per week or 1000 hours per year.**
Position Duties
Assists with maintaining inventory of materials and supplies used in the fire department.
Collects supply orders of various types and gathers the requested supplies based upon departmental guidelines.
Delivers supplies to each of the department’s facilities to ensure that each facility has the necessary supplies and materials to carry out effective and efficient operations.
Ensures that supplies and materials are kept in an orderly manner that supports accurate inventory control and the efficient processing of orders.
Ensures that the warehouse is maintained in a neat or orderly manner.
Assists the Assistant Fire Chief – Logistics with the acquisition of supplies and materials on an “as needed” basis.
Operates and maintains hand truck, pallet jack, and lift gates.
Drives and relocates fire apparatus as needed for maintenance and repair.
Works to support project managers as needed by working with vendors and third-party contractors.
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Good communications and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain, record, and keep accurate records and maintain attention to detail.
Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and Town of Cary employees.
Ability to self-manage time in a manner that ensures daily responsibilities are completed.
Ability to drive and operate fire apparatus.
Willingness to work a flexible work schedule.
Ability to walk and stand for long periods, as well as the ability to reach, stoop, kneel, etc.
Physical ability to lift moderate to heavy items.
Other Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in the fire service.
3+ years experience driving and operating fire apparatus required.
Minimum NC Class "B" Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
