Job Description:

Position Description: 

 

Researches and resolves issues related to application abends and infrastructure changes by leveraging COBOL, Job Control Language (JCL), DB2, VSAM, Machine Vision Software (MVS), Endeavor ISPF, Time Sharing Option (TSO), CICS, Control-M, and basic IBM utilities. Codes, tests, and implements COBOL solutions. Develops and maintains systems in the MVS mainframe environment. Performs COBOL DB2 code review. Leverages InterTest to perform debugging. Provides mainframe development and enhancement support leveraging mainframe MQ and Azure ADF pipelines. Triages all incidents. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develops, documents and revises system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards. 

  • Consults with management to ensure agreement on system principles. 

  • Provides technical guidance to support complex systems analysis projects, often across subsystems and companies, in a matrix organization.  

  • Consults with business users to develop recommendations that address difficult and complex business needs and opportunities.  

  • Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan computer software specifications on major projects and proposes modifications and improvements based on user need.  

  • Develops software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation. 

 

Education and Experience: 

 

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Systems Engineer (or closely related occupation) maintaining IBM mainframe applications and administrating system performance for testing and production environments within a financial services environment. 

 

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Systems Engineer (or closely related occupation) maintaining IBM mainframe applications and administrating system performance for testing and production environments within a financial services environment. 

 

Skills and Knowledge: 

 

Candidate must also possess: 

 

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) troubleshooting production incidents for applications within a financial services environment using InterTest, Data Studio, and SYSVIEW (to monitor IBM 3270 terminal macros, Input/Output Modules (IOMS), and IBM MQ). 

 

  • DE installing and upgrading on-premises, in-house, and vendor-based applications for IBM Mainframe (Omnipay, COBOL code review, and CICS regions) to support development teams. 

  • DE scripting and programming automated repetitive tasks and streamlining operational workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity using COBOL programing language, IBM CICS (Customer Information Control System), IBM Db2, JCL (Job Control Language), and Endevor. 

  • DE monitoring and analyzing system performance metrics including CPU utilization, storage space, and application activity across subsystems (CICS, DB2, and MQ) using SYSVIEW, Splunk, DataDog, and Grafana, to optimize system performance and efficiency.
