The position of Research Intern is ideal for individuals eager to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges and grow their capabilities through hands-on experience in research and development.
At the Weir Advanced Research Centre, we offer the opportunity to engage directly in testing the physical properties of polymer materials using a fundamental approach. Responsibilities include experimental validation of products and processes, technology scouting, product research, and preparation of Design of Experiments (DOE). This role provides practical exposure to cutting-edge research and fosters skill development in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
This role is being offered on a 6 month contract and would suit someone still completing studies in mechanical, electronic, mechatronics or materials related engineering or have recently graduated in one of these fields.

Key Responsibilities:
Design, Develop, and Test Systems
Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical and mechatronic systems, contributing to innovative engineering solutions.Support Research Activities
Participate in ongoing engineering research projects through experimentation, simulations, and data analysis to validate concepts and improve processes.Prototype Assembly and Evaluation
Engage in the assembly of prototypes and conduct performance evaluations to assess functionality and reliability.Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with electrical and software engineers to integrate multidisciplinary insights into research and development efforts.Documentation and Reporting
Record experimental procedures and results accurately, prepare technical reports, and present findings to the engineering team.Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Master’s degree (ME/M.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics, or Mechatronics.
Solid understanding of core engineering principles
Practical experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)
Basic proficiency in CAD tools
Familiarity with computer programming
Hands-on experience using engineering instruments highly desirable
Knowledge of mechanics of materials and how systems behave under load
Ability to perform and apply engineering calculations in practical settings
Understanding of automation and experimental programming
