About the Team:

We are the Oracle GFS team, responsible for managing Capital Markets Infrastructure Oracle databases. Our team provides 24x7 support for Oracle platforms, covering from support application development teams to production operations and infrastructure management across global environments.

Job Description:

This is an advanced technical role that requires a strong Oracle development background, including expertise in SQL tuning, partitioning, schema and sequence design, and hands-on experience managing production technologies such as Exadata, Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Korn, and Perl scripting to maintain ‘home grown’ scripts. The ideal candidate will have a Development DBA background and be comfortable collaborating with development teams to drive solutions and implement changes. A solid foundation in both development and production support is essential, as the role involves a blend of development tasks—focused on design, troubleshooting, and performance—and production operations, including on-call support.  The candidate will work closely with teams such as Unity and Global Plus to ensure proper validation and control before any scripts are executed in the production environment.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

•Support the application development lifecycle by ensuring that database structures are designed and optimized to meet the needs of the application. This includes tasks such as database design and modeling, SQL query optimization, and providing support for testing and debugging. They work closely with developers to review SQL code, ensure efficient data access methods, and maintain documentation of database designs and procedures.

•Meets commitments and provides excellent customer service at all times with internal and external clients.

• Provides status reports (written and/or verbal) that are detailed to tasks and difficulties encountered – enables managers to initiate escalation if necessary and assess areas where changes or additional support may be warranted.
• Ensures issues resulting in customer outage is escalated appropriately through CIO management.
• Assists application groups with design development that meet current and future business requirements:
• Participates in logical design process of strategic projects and responsible for the physical design/implementation.
• Provides specific direction on infrastructure design to support applications.
• Participates as a member of development support team on projects.- Follows and meets project timelines and deadlines.
• Provides maintenance of physical database:
• Creates physical database objectives following established standards and processes employed by database team.
• Enforces database standards and follows up on inconsistencies.
• Performs routine reviews of databases and systems to ensure acceptable levels of performance.
• Understands and applies database concepts such as database definitions, parameters, database component placement, reorganization, access methods and security definitions.
• Works with capacity planning, operations, application developers and other CIO teams on database performance and access issues.
• Provides 24/7 support of production database environments.
• As primary administrator, provides on call support as needed for on-call issues with database environments and provides follow up and permanent resolution for reoccurring issues.
• Implements backup/recovery procedures to protect integrity of data in database environment.
• Actively manages backups along with other database administrators to ensure processes are successful and we can recover as a result.
• If necessary, participates in recovery of databases and assists with disaster recovery testing and documentation.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

General Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert in developing database applications PL/SQL packages, functions, procedures, and complex SQL
  • •Focus on writing, troubleshooting and optimizing SQL codes
  • •Architect, Configure, Install, Upgrade oracle database
  • •Experience manages databases on Exadata, ODA, Azure, and AWS
  • •Implement High Availability systems like Oracle RAC, Active Data Guard, Golden Gate
  • •Setup Database backup/recovery tools like RMAN
  • •Performance database tuning and all aspects of components
  • •Configure/design Oracle 19, 23ai database on Exadata and ODA
  • •Troubshooting, installation, upgrade, performance tuning, and scripting
  • •Experience in Oracle Enterprise Manager
  • •Experience working with Azure and AWS
