The Opportunity:
KBR’s Land Systems Division is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced Defence Systems Engineer with a software focus to join our Armoured Fighter Vehicle (AFV) Branch. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Australia’s next-generation land combat vehicle capability, including programs such as:
- Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle
- Abrams Main Battle Tank
- Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV)
- Other critical Armoured Fighting Vehicle platforms
You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting systems engineering, software design, integration, verification, and sustainment activities. This role provides exposure to complex land vehicle systems, including mobility, lethality, survivability, electronic systems, and integrated logistic support, all within the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) framework.
All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.
Responsibilities:
- Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle, with a software focus, from requirements development through verification and validation.
- Develop and review Technical Investigations, Engineering Support Reports, Technical Instructions, and Test & Evaluation documentation for armoured vehicle systems.
- Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to engineering change and configuration management processes.
- Assist with the integration of mechanical, electrical, and mission systems, with a particular emphasis on software and embedded systems.
- Support upgrade projects and act as a Design Acceptance Representative where required.
- Contribute to Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), risk management activities, and adherence to Defence certification standards.
- Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with Defence, industry partners, and suppliers.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and graduate team members.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline. Chartered status is highly regarded.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Defence systems engineering with a software focus, ideally in land vehicle platforms.
- Proven expertise in requirements management, risk management, configuration management, and verification & validation processes.
- Exposure to software development, integration, and testing in complex systems highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ASDEFCON contracting frameworks, AEO requirements, and Defence acquisition processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, support upgrades, and deliver engineering solutions in line with Defence standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Current NV1 AGSVA Security Clearance (essential)
