Job Description
POSITION: Workability Coach
Purpose
Under the administrative direction of the SELPA Director, implements the WorkAbility Grant Program. Communicates with employers and schools. Works closely with school districts to operate an effective program and support job placements for students in special education.
This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Administers aspects of WorkAbility I Program, student reports and documents.
- Maintain ongoing personnel contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote WorkAbility programs for student placement.
- Conducts student evaluations after students are placed in positions.
- Attends meetings and maintains contacts with various community organizations that are involved in job placement/training activities to keep current with trends in a local job market.
- Recruits WorkAbility students and assists in assessing their job skills and interest for positions.
- Advises students in job seeking, interview preparation and job retentions skills.
- Monitors student performance on the job, and counseling student when job performance is not satisfactory.
- Coach students to obtain necessary job skills, and/or review other employment options.
- Maintains contact with employers during the students’ employment and report results.
- Prepares all forms and reports related to placement activities.
- Monitors grades and attendance of working students receiving credits for work.
- Assist students in completing and submitting a variety of forms regarding employment, payroll and other matters.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; performing standard bookkeeping; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; classifying data and/or information; conducting meetings.
KNOWLEDGE is required to understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex multi-step written or oral instructions. Specific knowledge of based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; standard employment guidelines; and age appropriate activities; job related codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies; school and workplace safety and security practices; practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals; and positive behavior intervention strategies.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a widely diverse population of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with constant interruptions; and adapting to changing work procedures. In addition, provide instruction on job seeking skills, resume preparation, and interview skills.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading; guiding, and/or coordinating with others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 25% walking, and 35% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Travel to schools and job sites is required and changes the environment.
Experience: Job related experience is required.
Education: High School Diploma. Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
Equivalency: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three (3) years of increasingly responsible secretarial or clerical experience.
The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job. However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed.
