About the Department
The City of Aiken Department of Engineering & Utilities is accepting applications for a Maintenance Technician.
Position Duties
- Inspects sewer pumping stations (lift stations) daily for proper operation; basic troubleshooting of systems in pumping stations; diagnoses problems; maintains lift station buildings, repairs/rebuilds/replaces electric motors, hydraulic pumps, pneumatic pumps, valves, air compressors and related auxiliary equipment; performs preventive maintenance tasks and inspections of waste water equipment to prevent breakdowns; calibrates instrumentation and controls
- Makes continuous inspections of assigned equipment; removes, installs, and relocates various pieces of heavy equipment, unwieldy, or otherwise critical equipment and machinery using crane truck, winches, hoists, and forklift
- Participates in and follows on call schedule; performs rigging, shoring and confined-space entry
- Reads and interprets schematics and drawings; maintains records and prepares reports; maintains a clean and safe work area; performs duties in a safe manner; maintains awareness of others in work area
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational courses in electrical and mechanical trades
- Two years related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Valid driver's license
