We’re pleased to announce an opportunity for the position of Head Start Cook within the Head Start Department.
Location: Newport, WA
Status: Full-Time
Offered At: $18.48 - $19.99 per/hr.
Salary Range: $18.48– $49.26 per/hr. (Represents the low and high end of the total salary range for this position)
Summary
Purchases and prepares snack, breakfast and lunch meals for preschoolers from menus that meet Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements. Implements trauma invested practices that support social-emotional and self-regulation skills throughout the center. Is able to provide a safe environment that includes active supervision when in the presence of children within the program.

General Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
• Prepares breakfast, lunch and snacks for large groups of children and adults.
• Cooks meals according to nutritional needs and MPRs.
• Shops and purchases groceries following the CACFP Procurement Plan, utilizing program funds to best maximize the quality and quantity of food.
• Ordering paper products, dining and cleaning supplies for the kitchen and center routinely or as needed.
• Oversees compliance of food safety practices, while following all program, state, and federal requirements.
• Provide teachers with dining supplies, well-prepared, appetizing meals and prepare individualized meals according to special dietary requirements.
• Attends to CACFP recordkeeping requirements by keeping organized records, revised menus and accountability of purchase receipts, receipt logs and payment through agency credit card purchases.
• Cleans up after meals and maintains kitchen cleanliness throughout the day, utilizing the kitchen task lists.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED and one year experience cooking for groups or any combination of cooking experience relevant to the job responsibilities and skills.
Required Certification & Licenses
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Valid driver’s license in state of residence.
• Auto insurance in the amount required by the State of Washington.
• Food Worker’s card or be able to acquire within 14 days of employment.
• Physical examination within three weeks of employment.
• Acceptable completion of a criminal history background check.
