Description
Summary:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for assisting in the troubleshooting and repairing of computer-based control and monitoring systems manufactured or supported by Beier Integrated Systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with instruction on installation and commissioning of equipment.
- Learn and increase knowledge of troubleshooting, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing proprietary and competitor generator components to include breakers, shutdown switches, wiring harnesses, alternators, and battery systems.
- Increase technical knowledge of trouble shooting, root cause analysis, electrical control maintenance standards, low/medium/high voltage and arc resistant theory, and on-site field estimation.
- Assist in promoting cost reductions, driving accurate maintenance and service estimations, and increasing part sales by consulting with other related team members.
- Shadow level III technicians to gain in order to gain knowledge on properly offering accurate resolutions and maintenance education for clients through successful technical support in intense, high-level risk or security environments.
- Must be available for on-call rotation per client needs on an as-needed basis.
Competencies:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong technical aptitude with a desire to develop expertise in electrical systems and field service.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and networking.
- Possess ability to learn to diagnose and repair hardware failures and network issues.
- Ability to travel regionally with occasional extended stay as required.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to take direction and work independently and collaboratively in a team
Requirements
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Relevant technical degree or certification is a plus
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Prior experience with and/or exposure to PLC systems, shipyard, marine, or offshore environments is beneficial, but it is not required as we provide training specifically for our products.
- Experience in marine or industrial equipment maintenance preferred
- Experience with PLC systems preferred but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in extreme cold and hot environments, including maintaining physical and mental alertness in temperatures that may exceed or fall below normal comfort ranges.
- Endurance to perform tasks while wearing protective gear, such as insulated clothing in cold climates and heat-protective attire in hot environments.
- Flexibility and mobility to work in tight, restricted spaces where freedom of movement may be limited.
- Capacity to enter, exit, and work effectively in confined areas such as engine rooms, crawl spaces, and vessel compartments.
- Capacity to navigate narrow walkways, climb ladders, and maneuver safely on uneven surfaces or stairwells in challenging sea conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment or tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stamina for extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and performing physically demanding tasks, especially in variable and extreme temperatures.
