About the Department
Under limited supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in one or more maintenance trades. This position assists in the coordination of a variety of tasks associated with response to weather-related emergencies, relocation of offices and special events. Employee is also responsible for maintaining inventory records. Employee must exercise independent judgment, discretion and decision-making related to completion of maintenance tasks associated with building and grounds facilities.
This position is essential. Personnel occupying this position may be scheduled to work irrespective of weather conditions and/or when general County offices are closed.
Position Duties
• Performs minor electrical work, plumbing and carpentry work as requested through department work orders (receptacles, indoor/outdoor lighting fixtures, power cords, sub-panels, installation of mechanical equipment, water bibs, faucets, sinks, shelving, storage units, work station renovations, etc.).
• Completes a variety of routine maintenance tasks associated with vehicle, equipment and building maintenance.
• Assists in the coordination and scheduling of small maintenance projects.
• Maintains working parts and supplies inventory.
• Provides support during weather emergencies.
• Coordinates special event preparation (i.e. Film Festival, 20-mile run, auction, etc.).
• Replaces and repairs facilities components and equipment as required.
• Determines materials and supplies needed for completion of assigned duties.
• Coordinates maintenance related to HVAC systems, coordinates use of shared equipment.
• Operates additional equipment such as bucket truck, tractor, and aerial lift.
• Removes snow from roads and parking lots.
• Responds to emergency calls as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in electrical, plumbing and carpentry repair/maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Employee in this position is required to wear safety shoes.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of equipment, materials and tools used in the construction, maintenance and upkeep of County buildings and associated facilities.
- Knowledge of the equipment, materials and tools used in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the work.
- Knowledge of established policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the department.
- Knowledge of basic grounds keeping, carpentry, plumbing, and related maintenance trades.
- Knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the construction and maintenance of facilities.
- Ability to plan, implement and monitor adherence to a maintenance schedule for grounds and equipment.
- Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates and to instruct them in proper work methods and procedures.
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment in performing daily work activities and in inspecting completed work.
- Ability to prepare and maintain routine work records and reports.
- Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the general public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
