COUNSELLOR
POSITION TYPE: Regular (80%)
POSITION START: October 1, 2025
FACULTY OVERVIEW:
Counselling Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking applications for a permanent part-time (8.0 FTE) counsellor working Monday-Friday (28 hrs/week) commencing October 2025. This position will be situated at the KPU Surrey campus.
Department environment:
- Collegial team of counselling practitioners.
- Case consultation provided within the team.
- Opportunities to engage with the larger KPU community through outreach/interaction/collaboration.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The successful candidate will have skills, experience, and knowledge in:
- Individual and group counselling;
- Assessment and triage;
- Treating a range of mental health/psychosocial/emotional concerns;
- Trauma-informed practice;
- Issues related to development across the lifespan;
- Counselling young adults and people in transition;
- Cross-cultural clinical practice;
- Crisis intervention and management and suicide assessment;
- Community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals;
- Ethical issues as they relate to personal counselling in a university setting.
Travel between campuses is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (MA/MEd) or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university;
- Registration with the relevant professional body as required (BCCSW, BCPA) or certification with either the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) or the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC); and
- Five years of relevant counselling work/clinical practice and/or equivalent experience (such as a combination of clinical practice with adults, social work, addictions counselling, child and youth care).
- Experience in successfully navigating and engaging with institutional systems, services, and support within a post-secondary institution is preferred.
- Fluency in a locally spoken language in addition to English is an asset.

*SALARY INFORMATION:
Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
