Description
Chicago Eye Surgeons is seeking a Business Development Manager/Surgical Coordinator to drive growth within our practice and manage all aspects of surgical coordination. This dual-function role focuses on building and maintaining referral relationships, marketing and identifying new business opportunities, and promoting practice services while ensuring efficient surgical scheduling and preparation. The Business Development Manager/Surgical Coordinator role plays a key part in expanding the practice’s presence in the community and strengthening a consistent referral OD and PCP network. Developing marketing campaigns through social media and community events, and helping maintain websites. In addition, this position involves supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care by coordinating surgical schedules, obtaining prior authorizations, facilitating communication with surgical centers, and educating patients on pre- and post-operative instructions. Must be able to help providers work up surgical patients for correct measurements prior to surgery.
Requirements
- Develop and maintain strong referral relationships with physicians, practices, and community partners to drive patient volume and practice growth.
- Identify new business opportunities, implement outreach initiatives, and represent the practice at networking events, health fairs, and professional meetings.
- Help maintain the website and social media with the latest practice news and SEO.
- Collaborate with providers and management to create and execute strategies that expand the practice’s market presence and strengthen referral networks.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for surgical scheduling, coordinating all aspects of ophthalmic surgeries with physicians, surgical centers, and patients.
- Obtain prior authorizations for surgical procedures and ensure all necessary preoperative testing and documentation are completed.
- Educate patients on surgical procedures, pre- and post-operative care, and answer questions regarding logistics and recovery.
- Maintain accurate logs of all surgical cases, including cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows.
- Facilitate communication between providers, surgical centers, and patients to ensure a seamless surgical process.
- Support marketing and promotional activities highlighting the practice’s services and patient care standards.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong sales background and work history with referral networks is preferred. Work history in marketing with SEO and social media is also preferred.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures, terminology, and surgical protocols.
- Knowledge about cataract and LASIK surgery is a must.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Prior experience with surgical scheduling, insurance verification, and preauthorization processes.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is required. Five plus (5+) years of ophthalmic experience preferred, including prior supervisory or leadership responsibilities. At least two (2) years of sales experience is a must.
Language Skills:
Clear verbal and written communication is essential. Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
Work Environment:
This role is based primarily in our Elgin and Lombard offices, with occasional work at our Chicago location. The position involves supporting a busy ophthalmology clinic and administrative office with a moderate to high patient volume.
