Position: HR Generalist II

Reports To: HR Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt


Job Summary:

The HR Generalist II role assists and guides staff and management in all areas of human capital management within their assigned business units. Key functional responsibilities include assisting in sourcing talent, training and organizational development, compensation, benefits, time-off management, overseeing our progressive disciplinary process, and enforcing company policies and practices. This 3-level role grows in independence, knowledge, skills, abilities, and responsibilities, as they progress through each level

Duties/Responsibilities Level II:

  • The HR Generalist – Level II performs, through their ability and experience, all basic Human Capital Management services for their assigned business units. They provide the foundation of our team, in the area of human resources. They are reliable, consistent, and require minimal assistance once they’ve been tasked by their HR Manager. They know what they are doing and can be counted on to perform to expectations accurately and consistently.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Performs routine tasks as required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complicated and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations as needed.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Provides assistance, training and guidance in the utilization of our HRIS platform, Paylocity to employees, supervisors and managers.
  • Conducts orientation sessions with onboarding team members. 
  • Maintains physical and digital files for employees. 
  • Collaborate with safety team to ensure department compliance and support of safety initiatives. 
  • Assists in developing training plans and content in company LMS systems. 
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Gathers, monitors, and analyzes data with useful HR metrics.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Level II

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience required.
  • SHRM-CP or other Human Resource industry certification is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of human resource generalist experience required. 
  • Safety experience and understanding best practices. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in the organizations HRIS and talent management systems. (We use Paylocity.)

Work Schedule:

This position requires ability to work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. Ability to travel, independently, to off-site locations, occasionally, as needed.

Work Environment:

Office setting at corporate or regional office locations. Occasional visits to off-site company locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Class D driver’s license to visit our job/property sites.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
