A Day in the Life of a CRMG Nurse Practitioner

Responsible for providing excellent quality care for patients in accordance with Cheyenne Regional Health System (Cheyenne Regional) standards and practices in hospital, clinic and outreach clinic settings.

Here is What You Will Be Doing:
  • Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart review; assess presenting illness, risk factors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and perform appropriate physical examination.
  • Orders/performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests.
  • Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with other providers and other disciplines, for evaluation of illness.
  • Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws.
  • Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Educates patients regarding health promotion/illness prevention.
  • Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs.
  • Communicates appropriate case management information to other professionals and community agencies.
  • Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment in written/computerized manner.
  • Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulation, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with physicians when indicated in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls/e-mails.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, compliance with care recommendations
  • Ability to diagnose and treat complex medical problems, analyze data and develop a plan of care utilizing evidence based medicine
  • Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data
  • Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources
  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving and crisis intervention
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations
Here is What You Need:
  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing
  • Current Advanced Practice Nurse-Certified Nurse Practitioner (APRN-CNP) from the Wyoming State
  • Board of Nursing
  • Current Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) from the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy
  • Current Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure
  • Specialty certifications as required per department/clinic specifications
  • 14 Days: Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start date
