Purpose/Job Function:
The Director of International Services will manage international services which include ocean/air transportation, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, NVOCC activities, international cost management & international transportation consulting. This role will develop the policies and procedures, regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction programs to support business practices for International Services. This role will also provide council and advice to Sr. Management and sales staff on issues germane to international transportation. In addition, this role is responsible to uphold our core values: Ethics, Engagement, and Excellence.
Essential Functions:
- Establish with Sales the marketing plan, targeted client list, action plan and timetable to grow revenue in all these areas: Transportation product offerings: Cost Management Programs, Freight Forwarding, NVOCC, Air Cargo Expeditors, Customs Clearance, Cargo Insurance.
- Develop and maintain International Services processes, systems and staff that will provide for on-going quality service, business development and future growth.
- Work with sales staff to grow the International Department’s opportunities and revenues.
- Make sales calls with sales staff to develop new international business.
- Negotiate rates with ocean carriers and agents for international transportation services that support on-going and new NVOCC and Freight forwarding business.
- Perform on-going review of customer specific rates and services; provide the business recommendations for price adjustments and/or expansion of service offerings.
- Develop, monitor and make improvements for International Services based on KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) as outlined within the annual business plan.
- Establish, monitor and maintain standard sell rates ensuring they are competitive.
- Monitor and reduce cost through reduced vendor pricing, implementing more efficient processes and efficient use of automated systems.
- Develop vendor management process and system, ensure vendors are financially stable and have required insurance coverage.
- Improve employee quality, performance and industry knowledge through training and coaching.
- Ensure pricing operates within all laws and regulations.
- Follow industry and economic trends that may impact cost/pricing for international services, be proactive responding to changes.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee/coordinate training for those in the International Services Department.
- Approve time off and overtime request.
- Responsible for approving timecards of temporary employees.
- Delegate tasks to those in International Services Department.

- Solid knowledge of the international transportation industries, forwarders, customers brokers, ship lines, carriers and their core competencies, markets and pricing models.
- A strong network of contacts within the international transportation service industry.
- Skills in analyzing data and developing solutions.
- Computer Literate with MS Office software – Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Education/Experience:
- Extensive carrier rate and contract negotiations experience.
- Degree in International business or Transportation & Logistics.
- Minimum of three years of management experience within the International transportation industry.
- Minimum of eight years of International transportation experience.
- Must meet FMC requirements for qualifying individual for company OTI license.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
This position will sit in front of a computer for long hours at a time and may cause eye irritation or even muscle strain. This position does require travel.
This position does not require any strenuous or physical activity.
Customary Work Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.
