Segers Aero Corporation located in Fairhope, AL is hiring a Blade Tech to work 2nd shift (four 10-hour days, Monday - Thursday from 2pm until 12pm with paid lunch). Purpose of Position: To prepare, repair, and ship propellers. Position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.
Esse Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).
- Manually grinds and polishes propeller blades
- Locates and prints out required documentation and records completion
- Boxes and unboxes blades from shipping crates
- Removes attached mechanical components from the blade
- Takes blade measurements and records
- Removes lead plugs from inside the blade using a high-pressure washer
- Strips paint and remove rubber parts from the blade tip using chemicals
- Removes cuff material using hammer/chisel or power tools
- Maps and measures blades per Overhaul Manual and standard practices
- Visually inspects items for defects throughout the process
- Proficiently preps and packages for shipment to Outside Service/customer
- Follows directions and correctly and safely mixes and applies chemicals
- Maintains chemical shelf life of in optimum quantities
- Uses overhead lifting crane to move props to other stations
- Cure the blades in the oven to cure the cuff
- Masks, paints, and stencils the blade cuff based on a computer stenciling program
- Solders blade heater components to the blade
- Perform surface treatments and repairs to blades per Overhaul Manual
- Maintains a clean workstation free from Foreign Object and/or Debris (FOD), ensures tooling is properly stored.
- Maintains a clean/safe workspace free from spills or obstructions that may lead to harm
- Travels as required
- Confers with manager / lead to recommend changes such as equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase the efficiency of the department and promote improvement
- Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner
- Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy
- Works overtime as needed
- Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. safety glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.)

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job)
- Must provide and maintain personal toolbox in accordance with Segers’ Tool Control Plan
- Must be proficient in using a variety of hand tools, special tools, and GSE required to perform assigned maintenance tasks
- Must be able to read and interpret SDS and Technical Data Sheets to safely mix paints in accordance with specifications
- Must be able to use scales for mixing ratios
- Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision and to take initiative
- Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations
- Must be able to apply common sense
- Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English
- Must be proficient in company specific software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; compute percentages, ratios, rates and interpret graphs.
- Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all applicable PPE
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally
- Must regularly be able to reach overhead
- Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and stand
- Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally
- Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses
- Must be able to hear running machinery
- Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively
- Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination
- Must strive to continuously develop skills and pursue training opportunities.
- Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions

Experience and Education Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years or older and a High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum 1 year of mechanical experience including troubleshooting aircraft, automotive, and/or industrial engines/equipment, or completion of Aviation School is required.
- Must pass a criminal background check, and DOT-FAA pre-employment drug screen.
- Position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations. Subject to drug and alcohol testing per DOT FAA’s regulations.
Work Conditions:
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
