Position Summary:

The Senior Production Supervisor serves as a key leader within the manufacturing team, responsible not only for overseeing shift-level operations but also for driving strategic initiatives, cross-functional alignment, and continuous improvement across production lines. This role supports the Production Manager in executing plant-wide priorities, mentoring supervisory staff, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and efficiency metrics. The Senior Supervisor plays a vital role in long-term operational planning, training development, and supporting new product introductions or equipment scale-ups.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Directly supervise and mentor multiple Production Supervisors and/or Leads across shifts or departments.
  • Provide leadership development, coaching, and performance management for frontline supervisory staff.
  • Lead shift handoff meetings and contribute to cross-shift standardization and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and high performance.
  • Lead operational projects in collaboration with floor teams, ensuring input from operators and leads is captured and utilized for successful implementation.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee complex or high-priority production areas or lines to ensure productivity and efficiency goals are met.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to resolve constraints and drive throughput.
  • Act as the escalation point for production issues requiring cross-departmental resolution.

Strategic Contribution

  • Partner with Plant Leadership to develop and implement continuous improvement plans.
  • Lead or co-lead kaizen events, root cause analysis, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Participate in capital project planning, including equipment justification, installation, and operator readiness.
  • Coordinate and manage projects with production floor teams, focusing on productivity gains, equipment optimization, and process standardization.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and internal standards (OSHA, FDA, ISO, etc.).
  • Champion corrective and preventive action (CAPA) efforts to reduce defects and rework.
  • Analyze operational data and trends to improve quality and reduce downtime.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare detailed shift, weekly, and monthly reports on production metrics, labor efficiency, and cost variances.
  • Communicate plant goals and priorities through structured meetings and informal floor engagement.
  • Support operational reviews and audits with senior leadership.

Production Management:

  1. Oversee daily production operations to ensure timely and efficient production of packaging products.
  2. Monitor production schedules, adjust priorities as needed, and ensure that production targets are met.
  3. Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production processes.

Team Leadership:

  1. Supervise, train, and evaluate production staff, ensuring they adhere to company policies and safety standards.
  2. Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and address any personnel issues promptly.
  3. Conduct regular team meetings to communicate production goals, changes, and updates.

Quality Control:

  1. Ensure all products meet quality standards and specifications.
  2. Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to identify and address any quality issues.
  3. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and production efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

  1. Enforce safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  2. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
  3. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to manufacturing and packaging.

Equipment and Maintenance:

  1. Monitor the condition of production equipment and arrange for routine maintenance and repairs.
  2. Work with the maintenance team to minimize downtime and resolve technical issues promptly.
  3. Recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to improve production efficiency.

Inventory and Supply Chain:

  1. Coordinate with the inventory and procurement teams to ensure the availability of raw materials and packaging supplies.
  2. Monitor inventory levels and manage inventory control processes to prevent shortages or overstock situations.

Reporting and Documentation:

  1. Maintain accurate production records and generate reports on production performance, efficiency, and quality metrics.
  2. Analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  3. Provide regular updates to the Plant Manager and other senior management

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or years preferred
  • Demonstrated success in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement. 
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and coach others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of production management, quality control, and safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in using production management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in 24/7 manufacturing environment, including extended hours when needed.
  • Must be able to move about the manufacturing floor and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Able to stand on feet for most of the shift; work with the processes on the plant floor, and work flexible hours as required.
  • Able to tell differences in printed colors and compare to color standards for quality control audits.
