POSITION: Lead Community Mentor
JOB GOAL: Increase positive and safe school culture based on school’s core values; enhance
student-staff relationships; support at-risk students; increase diversity of adult role models from
communities that are currently underrepresented in the faculty and staff; strengthen community
connection to the school. The lead mentor will assist the Youth Development Coordinator in
leadership of the Community Mentor program’s initiatives.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Excellent relationship building skills with school aged students and faculty/staff
3. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
4. Experience working with youth of diverse cultures and socio-economic statuses in
educational, mentoring, or community-based settings
5. Knowledge of restorative practices, trauma-informed care, or youth development
principles
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a school-based team
Reports to: Principal and Youth Development Coordinator
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Mentor students referred by administrators and/or counselors in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3
interventions in collaboration with school support teams.
2. Assist with mentor referrals and implementation of mentoring plans.
3. Support attendance and dropout prevention initiatives through outreach and
relationship-building.
4. Serve as a consistent and caring adult presence and role model for students, particularly
those identified as being at-risk.
5. Model and promote positive behavior, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
6. Support school-wide restorative practices and restorative circles.
7. Assist in the planning and delivery of professional development.
8. Collaborate with staff to resolve conflicts and repair harm; de-escalate situations with a
calm and appropriate manner.
9. Build strong relationships with students, families, and community partners.
10. Work with counselors and staff to help connect students and families to school and
community-based resources.
11. Support Vision of a Graduate (VOG) student mentors and peer-led initiatives.

12. Assist with planning and implementation of after-school and enrichment programming.
13. Participate in school events and activities that promote community connection and
student engagement.
14. Assisting staff in developing positive school culture throughout the building (in the
hallways, when invited into classes, during lunches etc.).

 

Compensation: Unaffiliated; $40/hour; 40 hours per week

Additional Information: This position may require flexible hours, including some after school
time
