This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Silo Ridge Field Club, set in Amenia, New York.

Silo Ridge Field Club is seeking a Director of Outdoor Pursuits (Recreation) to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department.

The Outdoor Pursuits Director will set the standards by which the Outdoor Pursuits department will function, leading, teaching, and supervising staff to provide exceptional experiences and memories all while ensuring utmost safety for members, guests, and prospects during their visits. The Director of Outdoor Pursuits ultimately responsible for all activities at Silo Ridge Field Club. The OP Director is responsible for coordinating, developing, planning, and implementing innovative programs and be fully accountable for the successful operation and safety of the OP program. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Team Management:

• Lead the Outdoor Pursuits team, including hiring, training, and performance management, ensuring policies and procedures reflect the highest standards of operation and member service.
• Develop a team and facilities that meet business objectives, supporting the delivery of exceptional member experiences and overall property operations.
• Ensure staff compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and DLNR regulations for all recreation, outdoor and land activities, promoting safety in all operations, including water and sports activities.
• Oversee staff scheduling, including daily line-ups and coverage for all shifts, activities, and events, ensuring operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors as needed to maintain safety standards during water-based activities, ensuring all team members and vendors are trained in safe practices.
• Manage departmental administrative tasks, including maintaining up-to-date equipment inventory, budget oversight, and loss prevention efforts.
• Maintain accurate reports on departmental activities, safety measures, and member feedback to continuously improve services.

Recreational & Activity Management:

• Oversee a wide range of sports and recreational activities, including hiking, kayaking, SUP, fishing, lawn sports, e-foil, racquet sports, arcade, crafts room, Discovery Explorers (kids camp), ice skating and hockey and more, ensuring all activities meet SOP guidelines and health and safety standards.
• Innovate and develop new activity offerings for members while creating safe and engaging ways for staff to participate.
• Continuously review and enhance member experience, ensuring all recreational programs provide a fun, safe, and memorable environment.

Member Engagement & Experience:

• Act as a key point of contact for members, encouraging participation in sports and recreation, and ensuring members feel welcomed and engaged.
• Assist with member requests, including equipment setup, food and drink orders, and ensuring the safe participation of members in water activities.
• Oversee kids' camp programs and organize special events, ensuring a family-friendly and enjoyable experience for all members and guests.
• Maintain a positive, professional atmosphere in all member-facing areas, such as Family Barn pool and beach zones, and facilitate sports activities with enthusiasm.

Staff Leadership & Development:

• Lead by example, embodying company values and promoting a positive, high-morale working environment for the Outdoor Pursuits team.
• Provide ongoing staff training and development, ensuring team members are well-equipped to deliver exceptional service and uphold safety standards.
• Monitor staff performance, delivering regular feedback and implementing progressive discipline when necessary to maintain a motivated and effective team.
• Foster a harmonious team dynamic by organizing team outings, showing appreciation, and addressing any issues that could disrupt the working atmosphere.

Financial Oversight:

• Manage the department’s budget, including payroll, member charges, and point-of-sale management, ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to budgets.
• Liaise with the procurement team to maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate competitive rates, and control department costs.
• Implement cost-saving initiatives that enhance member experience without compromising on safety or service quality.

Health & Safety Compliance:

• Ensure that all activities and operations comply with company health and safety standards, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
• Oversee the proper use of PPE by all staff and manage the safe disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with local regulations.
• Monitor and document all health and safety measures, ensuring the highest levels of compliance in all recreational and operational activities.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in a 4-5 star resort setting or in the luxury related field
• Full knowledge of all Outdoor Pursuits services/activities
• First aid/CPR qualified
• Minimum 5 years’ experience of staff supervision is required
• Must have knowledge of outdoor recreation and aquatics environment
• Previous experience teaching/coaching outdoor sports
• Previous experience in the guest service industry

Environment: (Physical Job Requirements)

• Lifting/Pushing/Pulling/Carrying
• This position requires physical labor such as bending, stooping, walking, reaching and standing
• This position may require moving a variety of equipment.  Should be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently this position may be require continuous standing due to the demands in the work
• This position will require the ability to drive a golf cart

• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
