Langage Power Station is looking for a first or second year apprentice to join the Production team in 2025 to learn how to operate and run a power station.
The appenticeship combines studying at City College Plymouth, and working at Langage Power Station with part time college study.
By the end of your multi discipline apprenticeship, you’ll have earnt a Level 3 BTEC Apprenticeship in Mechatronics, and an HNC. This role is a great opportunity to earn while you learn and develop a career that has a future.
Part of EPUKI, Langage Power Station was built in 2010 and is the baby brother of our fleet. Its high-pressure systems and its modern technology mean the station gives market leading efficiency to the National Grid and can offer flexible energy generation. So, when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing, Langage is ready to fill the gap making sure we all stay powered. Langage is an important part of the energy supply for the UK.
Langage has two gas turbines, each with a heat recovery steam generator powering a steam turbine. When it was built, Langage was one of the highest efficiency air-cooled combined cycle plants in the world.
What does a Production Apprentice actually do?
Simply put, day to day you’ll be learning how to operate and maintain the station. Including things like learning to operate and inspect equipment across the station (such as pumps, motors, high and low voltage electrical systems, gas/steam turbines), learning how to plan maintenance work, complete risk assessments and Health & Safety documents and communicate with the other departments that work on site such as engineering and maintenance. The production team are the beating heart of a power station, keeping everything working in sync.
You’ll learn what types of things drive when the station generates electricity, and when it doesn't. And you’ll learn how to optimise both these times to either maximise our income, or plan maintenance work that makes use of the station not running.
The demand for electricity is increasing, and while the energy industry is changing, the demand for talented people to take over in the future hasn't. A career in energy is a career with purpose, one that you can be proud of and one that has a critical impact to every person’s life.
What you'll need:
To meet the requirements of the course, you’ll need 5 CGSE’s, with grades A-C/Level 4 or higher including Maths, English and Science.
We're also looking for people who’ll help run this industry in the future, so we’ll want to know more about why you’re interested in the energy industry and why you think an apprenticeship is the right path for you.
In your application we’re keen to get to you know as best as we can, so we’ll want to understand your hobbies, work history and extracurricular activities you’ve been involved in as well.
We’ll give you the technical training to do the job over time, but we’ll want you to bring a sense of curiosity, enthusiasm, and teamwork to your time as an apprentice at Langage Power Station.
