California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) invites applications for a Clinical Teaching Faculty position in the Department of Medical Education. We seek an accomplished educator committed to advancing medical education and student success within a collaborative academic environment. This faculty role is central to delivering our MD curriculum, with responsibilities that include leading small-group learning, teaching in areas such as clinical skills, public health, ethics, and health systems, and contributing to curricular design and assessment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for student mentorship, support learners through personalized academic and career advising, and engage in scholarly activity in collaboration with students and faculty. This role also involves participation in faculty development, institutional service, and interprofessional initiatives. Appointment rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This opportunity offers the possibility of a part-time appointment of 0.5 FTE up to a full-time appointment of 1.0 FTE, depending on the candidate's availability and the department's needs.

Position Purpose
The faculty member will serve as Clinical Teaching Faculty within our MD program and will be expected to lead weekly small-group sessions on clinical cases as well as sessions related to professionalism, ethics, communication skills, cultural competency, public health, and health systems. The faculty member will be expected to play a key role in student advising and assessment, clinical skills, and simulation, and contribute to other learning activities in the department including curriculum development and working with students on scholarship.
Essential Function
Teaching
- Teach in the MD program, which include weekly small-group clinical case-based discussions as well as teach sessions on topics related to public/population health, professionalism, health systems, and ethics.
- Clinical skills and simulation teaching in courses and programs offered by the Simulation Center.
Curriculum and Program Development
- Pre-clinical and clinical curriculum development in partnership with course directors.
- Develop summative and formative assessments for the assigned lectures.
- Contribute to programs developed for GME partners.
Advising
- Advise student in pre-clinical and clinical years in collaboration with the advising team and clinical team.
- Advise students on career goals and planning including but not limited to career counseling, assistance with ERAS applications, MSPE’s, letters of recommendation, and selection of electives.
Research
- Contribute to teaching on research methods.
- Support/advise students on scholarly activities.
General Faculty Duties
- Participation in faculty development.
- Participate in administrative duties including service on institutional committees as assigned.
- Participate in other service activities as defined in the Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.

Required Educational Qualifications
- MD, DO or equivalent degree.
- Clinical experience.
- Evidence of successful collaboration and interdisciplinary work in a medical education environment.
- Eligibility for appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor in the interdisciplinary Department of Medical Education.

Preferred Qualifications
- Specialty board certification and eligibility for a California medical license.
- Experience with the US healthcare system.
- Experience in higher education, medical education, or university environment, policies and procedures as well as current trends in higher education.
- Experience with LCME accreditation process and requirements.
- Familiarity of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99). This law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

Salary
The salary range for this position is $100,000/year- $200,000/year (based on 1.0 FTE).
Salary will vary based on faculty rank, the scope of the position, and the qualifications of the applicant.
Successful candidates with an active CA license to practice and who are board eligible/board certified will qualify for a salary of $200,000/year.
