Purpose of Your Role
The Assistant Financial Controller will report directly to the Group Financial Controller and play a key supporting role in the leadership of the global controllership function. This position is critical to ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial reporting, the maintenance of strong internal controls, and the continuous improvement of finance operations across a global ASX-listed business. The Assistant Financial Controller will directly manage Regional Controllership resources across time zones (including APAC, North America and EMEA), ensuring alignment to global accounting policies and processes.
What You’ll Do
- Support the Group Financial Controller in overseeing the global controllership function. Manage the day-to-day operations including financial accounting, direct and indirect tax, regulatory and statutory reporting activities across locations.
- Manage and support regional finance team members, ensuring clarity of deliverables and effective communication. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous development.
- Manage and monitor the monthly close process across global entities, ensuring compliance with internal deadlines, reporting standards, and internal control requirements.
- Review and ensure accuracy of journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting prepared by regional teams, including the monthly revenue accounting process (Auto GL) and transfer pricing.
- Provide payment approval authority for accounts payable and payroll disbursements, as required.
- Assist with the preparation of half-year and full-year financial statements for the Group, and manage the preparation of subsidiary financial statements, ensuring compliance with AASB and IFRS standards.
- Coordinate with external auditors during interim and year-end audits, preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
- Manage the timely and accurate completion of global Direct (Corporate) and Indirect tax (GST, VAT, WHT, etc.) deliverables, in coordination with external advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Assist the Technical Accounting Manager in the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of finance operations.
- Support the preparation of reports and presentations for the Audit and Risk Committee and other stakeholders.
What you bring
Qualifications
- CPA or CA qualified
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in financial accounting or controllership roles, ideally in an ASX-listed or multinational environment
- Prior leadership or management experience, including oversight of remote or regional finance teams
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (AASB/IFRS) and reporting requirements
- Prior experience supporting external audits and statutory reporting processes
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong systems skills, including Excel and ERP systems (MS Office suite proficiency)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across departments and regions
- A proactive approach to problem solving and a mindset of continuous improvement
- Team-oriented with an interest in mentoring and developing junior staff
