About this Program
Are you passionate about empowering young people to overcome mental health challenges and thrive? Join us as a Recovery Worker with the Youth Community Living Support Services (YCLSS) program and help shape brighter futures.
YCLSS is a NSW government-funded program providing time-limited, community-based psychosocial support for young people aged 15–24 living with serious mental illness. We work alongside Local Health Districts to support personal recovery, reduce hospital admissions and help young people stay connected to their communities, education and employment. The program also supports families in understanding and assisting their loved ones’ recovery.
About the opportunity
As a Recovery Worker, you’ll be at the heart of this program, walking alongside young people as they work towards independence and a meaningful future.
In this role, you will:
- Build genuine, trusting relationships with young people to help them feel safe and supported
- Work with participants to create tailored recovery plans that focus on their goals, strengths and priorities
- Support them to develop practical life skills, from managing daily routines to connecting with education and employment pathways
- Foster community participation by linking them with local services, programs and social opportunities
- Partner closely with families, carers, clinicians and other support services to deliver coordinated, holistic care
- Use tools like the Wellify app to keep participants engaged and connected throughout their recovery journey
You don’t need to know everything from day one, we will support you to learn and grow. What matters most is your passion for working with young people and your willingness to walk alongside them, even when the journey isn’t easy.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A contemporary understanding of mental health and recovery-oriented practice (or a strong interest in developing this knowledge)
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of young people
- A commitment to learning and development through supervision, training, and reflection
You will also need:
- Completion of the Certificate 4 in Mental Health, Certificate 4 in Mental Health Peer/Work or Certificate 4 in Community Services or equivalent practical experience working in a mental health role.
- Right to work within Australia
- Current valid Driver’s Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (free online course)
- Satisfactory National Police Records Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children's Check (Employee/Paid)
