Under the Director of Special Needs Program, the Special Education Career Technician will organize, identify, implement, and monitor job development and placement plans related to career and academic guidance for high school students in special education.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Positions at this level are distinguished from the guidance information specialist by performance of a full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. This position is also distinguished from the ROP Career Technician for the position will assist the special education high school students.
Position Duties
Coordinates and conducts Employment Preparation Training for special education students including grooming, dressing, productive work habits required for maintaining employment, completing job applications and employment interviewing techniques.
Plans, prepares, administers and scores a variety of career assessment tests and interest inventories.
Establishes linkages with prospective employers in the community to promote and develop job opportunities and/or employment training possibilities for special education students.
Assists employers in identifying jobs that can be occupied effectively by student participants. Assist employers with the recruitment process of matching students' strengths, needs, abilities and knowledge with the organizational job requirements.
Acts as a liaison between job site supervisors and students, including monitoring job assignments to ensure progress of students recommended for hire.
Participates in group or committee efforts with educators, members of community organizations and employer representatives engaged in planning and developing employment opportunities, job search strategies and employment trends.
Maintain records and other documentation as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and abilities as stated above. Graduation from an accredited two-year college or two years of experience in career counseling, placement, special education, personnel or related field. Experience working with students in a high school setting is preferred.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C; incumbents are required to use personal vehicle and provide proof of insurance.
