I. Position Information
Title: Student Worker, Montessori Student Intern
Division/Department: Education/Montessori Laboratory School
Non-Exempt, Part time
II. Position Summary
The Student Intern position provides a hands-on practicum experience within a high fidelity
Montessori learning site. The position supports school and teaching staff to meet the needs of the Montessori Laboratory School.
III. Reports to
Direct Report to: Cooperating teacher, Administrator of CUMLS, and Classroom Montessori Teacher(s)
IV. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Carries out the plans and directives of the CUMLS Administrator and the Montessori teaching staff and abide by all licensing and accreditation standards.
- Assists with the set-up and maintenance of the Montessori prepared environment. This includes but is not limited to preparing materials and activities, cleaning, sweeping mopping, dusting, moving furniture, and other chores necessary so that the environment is clean, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for the children.
- Supports teaching staff by redirecting children as needed to work with and allows teachers to continue working with individual/small groups of children and/or observe as needed.
- Works with and redirects the children in the classroom to promote their learning and development consistent with the Montessori philosophy.
- Collaborates with the Cooperating Teacher and other Montessori teaching staff to monitor the development of each child.
- Participates in staff meetings as applicable and other in-service training as needed.
- Attends all school functions as requested.
- Participates in the planning of school events, parent nights, programs, and other functions.

VI. Education and Experience
- Must be enrolled in a Chaminade Early Childhood Education Teacher Training Program.
- Solid understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- General knowledge and understanding of Montessori philosophy and practice preferred.
- Proof of a criminal record clearance.
- A physical examination clearance for work with children aged two to six.
- A current TB screening.
- Highly encouraged to be a member of the Career Access and Navigation of Early
- Childhood Systems (CANOES) Registry.
VII. Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and require a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
VIII. Other Requirements
- This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule as events can take place outside of office hours, on Saturdays and Sundays, and throughout the evening.
