Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain the District Drop-off Sites by providing general maintenance and upkeep of drop-off sites, recycling containers, and facilities.
- Clean and sweep in and around dumpsters. Pull materials that are not recyclables out of the dumpsters. Decal dumpsters as needed.
- Re-stock flyers in mailboxes at sites.
- Load non-recyclable items (furniture, TV’s, etc..) into a pick-up truck or trailer and take to roll-off at the district office or other acceptable disposal means.
- Communicate with the public about “Correct Recycling”, illegal dumping & theft of recyclables.
- Oversee the Specialty Waste Program by collecting Specialty Waste on site as contracted by the Solid Waste Management District
- Unload materials from customer vehicles and weigh it, calculate, and collect payment from customers, sort collected materials in the designated container on site for vendor to process and complete all paperwork necessary for the operation of the Specialty Waste drop-off program, as required by District Manager
- Operate skid steer to load materials in trailer
- Deliver boxes and dumpsters to sites for exchange or temporary events
- Use plow and salt spreader at SW facilities and sites as needed
- Empty recycling bins in the office
- Take vehicle(s) to Sanitary Engineer Garage for fluids and preventative maintenance
- Onsite baling operations (drive skid steer and operate baler as needed)
- Assists in various related special projects and all other tasks as assigned or directed by the Lucas County Board of Commissioners of the District, Sanitary Engineer, and District Manager.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working outside in all types of weather.
- Overtime may be required, as approved by the District Manager.
- May also assist in other programs as assigned by District Manager
- May include working at landfill sites and with dumpsters and collection equipment (hands-on with the separation and measure of waste may be required)
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Household hazardous training as required by employer*
- Ability to drive a skid steer*
