Hybrid Medical Assistant/Front Desk Receptionist

Full-time (40 Hours per week)
General Responsibility: The Hybrid Medical Assistant / Front Desk Receptionist is an essential member of the care team who provides both clinical support to providers and administrative support at the front desk. This dual role ensures continuity and efficiency in patient care and front office operations.
Specific Responsibilities:
Medical Assistant Duties:
- Work directly with primary care providers as part of the patient care team.
- Welcome and escort patients from the waiting area to exam rooms.
- Record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, pulse) and input data into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Collect and document patient history, medication lists, hospital/ER visits, and presenting concerns.
- Performs routine diagnostic tests (Urinalysis, HCG, HGB, blood glucose, urine drug screens, stool cards (FOBT), rapid strep, rapid HIV, rapid flu, lead tests and Hgb A1C according to Tri-County policies, procedures, protocols and standing orders.
- Perform pre-visit planning and complete Review of Systems (ROS) and History of Present Illness (HPI).
- Administer Patient Health Questionnaires (PHQ-2, PHQ-9, GAD-7, CAGE) to support behavioral health screening.
- Ensure clinical areas are clean, stocked, and compliant with infection control protocols.
Front Desk Receptionist Duties:
- Greet and check-in patients in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update EMR as needed.
- Assist with managing patient flow and coordination between front desk and clinical staff.
- Provide general administrative support to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Correctly identifies appropriateness of appointment scheduling. Directs emergent needs to nurse team for further triage.
- Responsible for complete and accurate data entry for all information which includes patient registration, encounter billing information, and changes in insurance information.
- Responsible for assisting in answering all incoming calls and taking accurate messages.
- Responsible for confirming, cancelling, or rescheduling appointments.
- Assist in scheduling appointments and directing appropriate calls to the nurse triage team.
- Responsible for completing end of day closing reports.
Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED and a graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program (at least 12-month program) is required. Strong computer skills. CPR certification.
Physical Effort/Environment:
- Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping and occasional lifting.
- Frequent use of phone, computer, writing, taking vital signs and verbal communication.
- Need to be able to sterilize instruments, clean the waiting room and exam rooms as needed.
- Significant exposure to blood borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners.
Work Schedule Demands:
- Full-time position as dictated by need, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Health Center Director and/or Medical Director.
- Will be required to work one evening.
Confidentiality of Information:
- Full access to patient’s electronic medical record
- Some access to financial/statistical material.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all levels of interaction in accordance with State and Federal laws and Tri-County policies and procedures.
Special Qualifications: Excellent oral and written skills are necessary, experience with NextGen is preferred. Must be able to clearly present information to patients and employees, be dependable, flexible and show initiative. Bilingual a plus. Must be motivated to work as part of the Clinical Team in providing comprehensive primary care services to patients. Professional telephone manner. Demonstrate an understanding of everyone’s experiences, every day. Ensuring the delivery of services that recognizes and respects that every moment matters.
