Job Summary:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the West Henrietta Packaging Operations in areas including introduction of new products on current packaging lines, modifications of existing technology and the selection and definition of future packaging platforms
Responsibilities
Automation Support
• Support proof of concept definition and execution activities
• PLC software development and troubleshooting
• Human Machine Interface (HMI) software development and troubleshooting
• Interact with data sources, such as databases
• Verification and troubleshooting of equipment wiring, pneumatics, and automation components
• Evaluate and troubleshoot applications programming code
• Maintain and improve Laser Ablation and Thermal Transfer print systems
• Maintain and improve vision inspection systems for optical character recognition
• Maintain and improve barcode scanning systems
• Maintain and improve operational excellence software for visualization of process performance on the production floor
• Acting SME for automated packaging systems
Vendor Management
• Support user requirements specification development for new equipment and/or systems
• Request equipment proposals
• Participate in vendor technical discussions
• Review equipment design documentation and drawings
• Monitor vendor timeline adherence
• Support vendor commissioning phase
Project Implementation
• Provide support during equipment installation activities
• Support equipment commissioning and systems integration
• Support equipment and process qualification activities
• Support engineering studies definition and execution
• Support equipment performance monitoring and evaluation
Travel:
Up to 10%
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency using PLC software tools such as Studio 5000, RSLogix, etc.
• Proficiency using HMI software tools such as FactoryTalk View.
Proficiency with vision inspection and barcode scanning systems such as Cognex, etc.
• Exposure to automation component troubleshooting and selection.
• Exposure to servo-driven systems, robotics.
• Excellent organization skills, ability to multi-task, and a commitment to timely follow-up; strong results orientation.
• Excellent project management skills – ability to establish tools and ways of working to ensure accurate and timely follow-up and on-time deliverables.
• Able to communicate professionally across a wide variety of employee levels and locations.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills
Work Environment:
• Generally, works in office conditions with moderate level of noise and controllable changes of temperature.
• May be required to walk long distances, stand and/or sit for prolonged periods
• Must be able to climb ladders
• Dynamic environment, must be able to shift priorities
Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in a medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in manufacturing equipment implementation projects is highly desirable.
• 3+ years of PLC and HMI programming experience.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Software, Mechanical, Computer Engineering or related field

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $76,309.00 and $ 101,745.00 per year and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
