About EPIARX

EPIARX Diagnostics is a private pathology practice based in Washington, D.C., providing postmortem diagnostic services with dignity, precision, and compassion. Our work takes place behind the scenes—but it plays a critical role in helping families, hospitals, and medical examiners understand the cause of death and gain closure.

As we grow, we’re looking for a responsible, composed, and respectful individual to join our team and help with one of the most sensitive parts of our work: professional, compassionate transport.

About the Role

This isn’t just a driving job. As a Mortuary Transport Technician at EPIARX, you’ll be responsible for transporting deceased individuals from hospitals, residences, or funeral homes to our autopsy suite, the medical examiner’s office, or other designated locations. You’ll serve as the calm in an emotional storm—handling people and logistics with equal parts professionalism and empathy.

This role involves driving a transport van across the DC metro area (and sometimes beyond), so prior driving experience and comfort behind the wheel are essential. This is an on-call position with variable, often sporadic hours. Flexibility and responsiveness are key.

What You’ll Do

  • Safely transport the deceased between designated locations (homes, hospitals, funeral homes, etc.)
  • Interact with families, funeral staff, and hospital personnel in a respectful, professional manner
  • Keep the transport van clean, well-maintained, and stocked with supplies (e.g., gloves, gurney sheets, body bags)
  • Assist with transferring individuals from trays or gurneys; provide postmortem care as needed
  • Coordinate the release and receipt process for each decedent, including light administrative documentation
  • Triage calls, emails, and faxes related to transport and autopsy operations
  • Provide coverage during nights, weekends, holidays, and on short notice when required
  • Occasionally support longer-distance transport assignments that may require overnight travel

Requirements

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • A clean driving record and ability to pass a background check and drug screening (required)
  • Comfort working in close proximity to deceased individuals
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and move heavy weight (e.g., gurneys) safely and respectfully
  • Calm, professional demeanor in emotionally sensitive situations
  • Clear communication skills and ability to interface with grieving families, medical staff, and other professionals
  • Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, reliably, and maintain discretion
  • Basic comfort with email, online scheduling, and Microsoft Office tools (a plus)

Who Thrives in This Role

You are someone who:

  • Stay composed and courteous even under emotional pressure
  • Take pride in doing difficult, behind-the-scenes work that truly matters
  • Have prior experience in funeral services, healthcare transport, or related fields
  • Prefer a quiet, focused work environment and the flexibility of on-call assignments
  • Are deeply respectful of others and motivated by service

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • Your resume
  • A brief cover letter explaining:
    • Why this role interests you
    • Your general availability for part-time, on-call work, including evenings and weekends

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
