Estimating Engineer
Mission: Assist in the implementation of new estimating software, designed to reduce the time to quote most jobs to under 24 hours.
Outcomes:
- Post launch the software, Paperless Parts, should improve our quote turnaround time to under 24 hours for simple parts.
- Enhance Collaboration: Coordinate with internal and external resources to improve overall efficiency.
- Plant Engagement: Spend significant time in the plant to understand production processes, ensuring accurate and feasible quotes.
- Drive Change: Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in the estimating process, introducing innovative solutions to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Cross-functional Involvement: Participate in other engineering activities during slower periods to broaden skill set and support the engineering team.
Competencies:
- SolidWorks Proficiency: Strong experience in using SolidWorks software.
- Paperless Parts: Familiarity and experience with this estimating software would be beneficial.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze historical data and prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Office 365 Proficiency: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint is expected. Knowledge and skills in newer tools such as Power Automate a plus!
- Initiative and Drive: Demonstrated enthusiasm for taking responsibility, driving change, and achieving continuous improvement.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and external partners.
- Flexibility: Willingness to spend time in the plant and adapt to varying work demands.

Full Job Description:
Join our dynamic team at ATACO Steel Products Corp, a leader in metal stamping and fabrication. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Engineer to support our growth and drive improvements in our quoting process.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze historical company data related to work-center capabilities and capacity
- Collect quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates utilizing Paperless Parts and other software templates to meet our objective of a 24-hour turnaround time.
- Plan, hand-off, and delegate awarded new programs as necessary.
- Communicate project status to customers effectively.
- Develop and maintain accurate procedural documents.
- Spend significant time in the plant to understand production processes and ensure accurate quotes.
- Participate in other engineering activities during slower periods.
- Help develop our ability to outsource part of the quoting process.
- Recommend and implement software solutions to streamline and automate the quoting process.
Requirements:
Essential Requirements:
- A degree in Engineering or equivalent manufacturing experience
- Proficient in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
- Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.
- Demonstrated initiative and excitement to drive change and continuous improvement.
- Comfortable spending time in a manufacturing plant.
- Adhere to ATACO Amazing Fundamentals
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with cost estimating and using Paperless Parts estimating software.
- Experience in a metal stamping or fabrication facility (preferred but not required)
