Description
The candidate shall perform a variety of functions associated with small arms and weapons maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled), gauging, storage of sensitive items, issuing and receiving, and inspections. All services performed on small arms equipment shall meet or exceed the standards in the applicable TM, safety bulletins, and local command policies.
The ideal candidate shall:
- Perform overhaul, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, and adjustments, which are to be adjusted to close tolerances per armament specification.
- Diagnose and identify mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons.
- Check inventory for discrepancies within weapons systems and notate all deficiencies per TMs and report to supply manager.
- Disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components, while examining for defects, mechanical misalignment, and all malfunctions.
- Replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modifying small weapons by replacing obsolete parts.
- Apply finishing agents and test fires per Government supplied items provided and/or perform operational checks on arms that are repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation.
- Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms.
- Ensure the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access.
- Conduct logistics and supply support operations to enable efficient and effective maintenance operations.
- Provide technical assistance to unit personnel.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience inspecting and troubleshooting Small Arms components using hand tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs, and alignment devices in making repairs and adjustments. Familiarity with the U.S. Army Reserve maintenance management principles and metrics
- Qualified candidates shall possess a certificate from a Vocational Technical School for Small Arms Repair or have graduated from Small Arms and Artillery Repairer AIT or other DOD equivalent training.
- This position requires compliance with the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment, to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 USC 922).
- This position requires a Personnel Security Investigation.
- Ability to obtain a US government Common Access Card (CAC).
- A minimum requirement of an interim SECRET clearance is required for this position.
